A retiring don of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, Professor Frank Carew has received encomium from members of the academic community as he bowed out at the age of 82 years.
The acting vice chancellor of the university Professor Hassan Ibrahim who was represented by the director, Academic Planning, Professor Salihu Mohammed Niworu, described Professor Carew as an “icon of human development.”
He highlighted the vast contributions of Prof Carew across continents and his decision to dedicate his post-retirement years to IBB University at an event to honour him at IBB University Guest House Minna at the weekend.
“He who laughs last, laughs best. At IBB University, we are laughing last because we are fortunate to have benefited from the wealth of knowledge and experience Professor Carew brought,” he said.
He acknowledged Professor Carew’s patience, humility, and unwavering commitment to nurturing academic excellence, assuring that the university would continue to seek his counsel whenever needed.
Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the occasion and registrar of the university, Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki, reflected on his longstanding professional relationship with Professor Carew, and emphasized the importance of mentorship and collaboration in the academics.
In his welcome address, the director Institute of Continuing Education and e-Learning (ICEeL), Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Baji, described Professor Carew as a visionary academic whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the institution and beyond.
Carew a professor of Counselling Psychology shared insights into his academic journey, expressing gratitude to key individuals and institutions that shaped his career.
