The management of Igbinedion Education Centre has confirmed a viral video showing two students bullying and physically assaulting a fellow student, announcing that the perpetrators have been expelled from the school.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows two students flogging, hitting and kicking another student who is seen lying on the floor writhing in pain.
In a statement issued by the school management, the institution described the incident as disturbing and said the actions of the students violate the school’s standards and values.
“We are aware of a video currently circulating online showing a serious incident of bullying and physical assault involving students at the school.
“The behaviour shown in the video is deeply disturbing and stands in direct violation of the values and standards we uphold. The school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment, and any form of violence,” the statement read.
According to the management, the school conducted an immediate investigation and sanctioned the students involved.
“Following an immediate investigation, the students responsible have been expelled from the school with immediate effect. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our school community.
“Our priority remains the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every student. We are providing support to those affected and are working closely with their families to ensure the matter is addressed with the seriousness it deserves.
“The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities, and knowing that the students are minors, the school is cooperating fully,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, has urged the victim and his parents to come forward and make a formal complaint to enable the police commence an investigation.
“I have seen the video, and the only thing I can say for now is that the boy and his parents should come forward and make a complaint so that an investigation can begin,” Ikoedem said.
The viral video has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for strict punishment for the perpetrators and stronger measures to address bullying in schools.
