The Igbo Wikimedia Community has called on editors, gender advocates, academics, and students to join its 2026 Feminism and Folklore 2026 contest.
The contest, aimed at improving Igbo-language Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikiquote content as a means of documenting Igbo and African folk traditions, will run from March 1 to 31, 2026.
It requires interested persons to create new articles or expand existing Igbo articles on Wikimedia about Igbo Folklore and Culture, as well as Igbo and African women in the arts, culture, and leadership.
Articles around Igbo folklore and culture span festivals, dances, music, and games; Igbo traditional clothing and cuisine, myths, legends, storytelling, religion, and cultural practices. Articles on women and gender must address the biographies of Igbo and African women, women in culture, the arts, and leadership, gender roles in Igbo society, and women in folklore and mythology.
Submitted articles must be written or expanded in the Igbo Language, with a minimum of 300 words and 3000 bytes, written within the campaign period, and addressing the aforementioned themes. AI, machine-translated texts, and copyright-violating content are disallowed. References must be reliable and duly stated in the article.
