The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured the Plateau State Government of the federal government’s commitment to restoring peace and security following the recent deadly attack on Kawel community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.

The assurance was conveyed on Wednesday by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Morris Dankwambo, during a visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Old Government House in Rayfield, Jos.

Dankwambo said the visit, directed by the IGP, was aimed at conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the attack, evaluating the level of destruction, identifying security gaps and strengthening measures to prevent future incidents.

The AIG conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General to the government and people of Plateau State, describing the killings as barbaric, unlawful and unacceptable.

He disclosed that security agencies had already begun reviewing existing operational plans, identifying vulnerabilities and reinforcing tactical deployments to improve the protection of vulnerable communities across the state.

According to him, tactical teams and other operational units are fully committed to restoring peace, rebuilding public confidence and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

Dankwambo also urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible intelligence, embracing community policing initiatives and avoiding reprisals that could further escalate tensions.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang described the visit as a strong demonstration of solidarity by the Nigeria Police Force and a reflection of the federal government’s determination to work closely with the state in restoring lasting peace.

The governor disclosed that the state had invested heavily in securing the Mushere axis through military deployments, increased police presence and other security operations, noting that the latest attack underscored the need to review existing security strategies.

Mutfwang revealed that an emergency meeting of security chiefs was convened immediately after the attack to reassess the state’s security architecture, adding that security agencies were already pursuing useful leads in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.
