The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was honoured at a state banquet hosted by the Lagos State government over the weekend in recognition of his appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The event held at the Lagos State House, Marina, was convened by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and attended by top government officials, security stakeholders, and members of the public.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Disu as a true son of Lagos whose career has been shaped by discipline, dedication, and service to the people.

He noted that the honour was not only in recognition of Disu’s elevation to the highest police office but also a reflection of his track record, particularly during his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in the state.

In his remarks, Disu expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos, describing the reception as a homecoming and a moment of reflection on his years of service.

He said, “I am deeply honoured by this recognition from Lagos State.

This is home for me, and I remain committed to serving with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the safety of all Nigerians.”

The police boss reiterated his commitment to strengthening professionalism within the force, rebuilding public trust, and promoting community-driven policing nationwide.

He added, “We will continue to enhance collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and key stakeholders, including state governments and security partners, to ensure a safer and more secure society.”

Disu also called on citizens to support law enforcement agencies, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.

“Effective policing cannot be achieved without the support of the people. Government, private sector, civil society, and citizens must work together to safeguard our communities,” he said.
