The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intensified efforts to strengthen border security and migration management through a two-day sensitisation programme on the National Migration Policy (NMP) held in Katsina State.
The programme, organised under the theme, “Enhancing Awareness for Effective Migration Management and Border Governance,” was jointly hosted by the Katsina State Command and the Jibia Border Command, drawing participation from officers across various units and formations of the Service in the state.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the comptroller-general of Immigration Service (CGIS), K.N. Nandap, the state comptroller, T.Y. Dogara, described the sensitisation as a strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s migration governance framework.
He outlined key reforms introduced by the Service, including the e-Visa system, contactless passport application, e-border solutions, and biometric identity cards.
According to him, these innovations were designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance border control, and strengthen national security.
In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the comptroller of the Jibia Border Command, H.S. Zakirai, assistant comptroller of Immigration Ashiru Sulaiman, said the programme was both timely and impactful.
He said it would enhance officers’ professional capacity while promoting stronger collaboration among relevant agencies in managing migration-related issues.
The training featured presentations by the Superintendent of Immigration, Y.Z. Aliyu, who provided an in-depth overview of the National Migration Policy and led practical sessions to equip the officers with the tools needed for more effective service delivery.
In its closing remarks, the deputy comptroller, Yusuf Suleiman, commended the attendees for their active participation and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to improve operational outcomes across their respective commands.
