The Chairman of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Lagos Branch, Mr Adewunmi Ismail Adebayo, has, on behalf of the executive committee and entire membership of the branch, felicitated with Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement jointly signed by Adebayo and the branch’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Makinde Abdulhakeem Olasunkanmi, the association said the anniversary, which marks another milestone in the nation’s history, provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect soberly on the journey so far, appreciate the progress made and renew their collective determination to consolidate the gains of nationhood while addressing the challenges that remain.
“For Muslims, responsible citizenship, justice, peaceful coexistence and respect for constituted authority are important values. The Glorious Qur’an enjoins believers to ‘obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you’ (Qur’an 4:59).
“The occasion of Independence Day, therefore, provides another opportunity to remember our responsibilities to society and to contribute positively towards peace, justice and national development,” the statement said.
MULAN Lagos, in particular, called on Nigerians, irrespective of faith, ethnicity or social background, to continue to promote unity, integrity, tolerance and the rule of law.
“Love of country should find practical expression in honesty, service to humanity, respect for lawful institutions and a sincere commitment to leaving Nigeria better for succeeding generations,” the statement said.
The branch prayed that Almighty Allah would continue to guide the nation’s leaders, preserve Nigeria in peace and security, and grant the country greater prosperity, justice and progress.
