The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has resolved to probe the activities of some erring members of the party’s executive committees in five states who were accused of various offences.
A statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Ladipo Johnson, on Tuesday, stated that the decision was sequel to recent dissolution of Excos in some state chapters of the party in Taraba, Benue, Oyo, Bauchi and Gombe States.
The affected state chapters were dissolved in the first week of September with the national leadership of the NNPP citing the need to reposition the party, amongst other things, as the reason for doing so.
The statement added that the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held in Abuja on Tuesday.
“The decision to probe some of the erstwhile executive committee members and some other members of the party was a normal step, in a dynamic political party that is poised to make necessary changes for development and achievement of goals,” Johnson stated.
According to the statement, the party chieftains suspended for three months included Mrs. Ayobami Idowu Adekunle, Alhaji Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeniyan, Mr. Demola Oke, Mr Kilamuwaiye Badmus, Mr Oyesola Ololade, Mr Olayiwola Musibau, Mr Tunde Adedapo, and Ms Riike Olanira.
Citing the breach of the party’s constitution, Johnson added that, “The issues (for their suspension) are generally tied to offences against the party and anti-party activities.
“Of course, no serious leadership would condone such an attitude as alleged to have been perpetrated by these suspended members of the party.
“All those affected have been informed of the decision and will be expected to appear before the party’s National Disciplinary Committee.”
