A Technology initiative is taking steps to address Nigeria’s data science and analytics talent shortage. Data-driven decision-making is becoming increasingly critical across all industries, but many Nigerian companies find hiring qualified data professionals locally difficult.
Temiloluwa Gbadebo, a prominent player in the financial technology industry, has launched an innovative data-led initiative to tackle this skills gap. The intensive training aims to take talented university graduates from various backgrounds and equip them with data analytics, science, engineering, and visualisation skills.
At the Innovators Day by The Pioneer STEM Show, it was emphasised that “There is no shortage of bright, eager graduates in Nigeria looking for opportunities to contribute their skills,” said Co-founder of Techlifta, Temiloluwa Gbadebo.” This program will empower these young women and men with in-demand abilities that will launch their careers while filling talent gaps in data-related roles across our company.”
The comprehensive curriculum covers Python, big data technologies, statistical analysis, data visualisation, machine learning and cloud platforms. An experienced in-house instructional team will use real-world case studies and projects to conduct the training.
Successful participants will feed into various organisations’ data analyst, business intelligence, AI engineer, and data science roles. They will apply their new expertise across divisions like risk management, financial research, customer analytics, etc.
He added that, “It’s a win-win initiative aimed at boosting data literacy and competency in Nigeria’s future workforce while enhancing our own company’s capabilities. ”
The cohort launch includes plans to scale up and offer data skills training to university students and those already in the workforce across Nigeria. As more industries go digital, the demand for data skills in the country is expected to intensify rapidly. Techlifta hopes to further Nigeria’s development of a vibrant data science ecosystem.
