According to the list released by the INEC, Benue State governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; Michael Kaase Aondoakaa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and Prof. Terhemba Shija of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have made the final list of governorship candidates.

The list also included Herman Iorwase Hembe of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nyibiam Kwaghshir of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Adagba Iorhen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Mercy Ujah Engole of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Dominic Ochenehi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Mathias Terwase Byuan of the Labour Party (LP), Terese Paul Wombo of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Roseline Ada Chenge of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and Simon Ocheme Ogbe of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The governorship election will hold February 6, 2027.

Reacting, the SDP governorship candidate, Hon who posted on his verified facebook page on Sunday said he is working together with the SDP headquarters and had already engaged INEC on, “this minor error and we have received assurances that it’s a mistake that will be corrected ASAP”

Hon said, “Good morning, my supporters and friends. My Campaign Organisation has already issued a terse statement on the omission of my name in the list published by INEC. I wish to add that the said omission is simply an error, which shall be corrected very soon”

“Let me also briefly state, to further assure you, that: The names of the Candidates of the SDP contesting for the various State Constituencies have all been published. Over 95% of them did their primaries on the same day, at the same venue and time”

Hon added, “ I was the sole aspirant of my Party, SDP, for the office of Governor. Consequently, I was/I am the sole candidate, unchallenged by anyone. My name had been uploaded on the portal of INEC. I have evidence to that effect in my possession” the SDP governorship candidate stated.
