The Marghi Yukur Development Association in Abuja, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau States, has called on governments to rally round displaced communities as a result of the lingering insecurity in the country.
The association particularly decried the humanitarian crisis across the North East and North Central due to incesant attacks by non-state actors.
Speaking during the association’s end of the year celebration in Kuchiyako, Karu local government area of Nasarawa State, Wakili Ptil Marghi Karu, Isa Dafor, noted that the Marghi people in Borno and Adamawa were also at the receiving end of terrorist attacks with many displaced.
He said with the loss of their ancestral homes and sources of livelihoods, displaced persons in any part of the country required interventions to be able to effectively integrate into the society.
He called for peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians irrespective of tribes and religion.
“When you have peace, you have happiness. When you have happiness, you have unity. That is what we preached during our gathering in Yola on 22nd October. With peace and unity, we grow bigger,” he stated.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the minister of Defence Gen Christopher Musa (rtd) to secure the country.
“With the coming of the new Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa, I believe everything will be okay. We are supporting him to succeed,” he noted.
Also speaking, Ambassador Yaji Gulak, called for unity among the Marghi people.
“My advice is that we unite, understand ourselves and assist ourselves. Some of us are not so strong. Unity and helping one another will make the world remember us. Anywhere I go, even in Brazil, I meet my people,” he said.
