The inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has unveiled 40 new Panthera Armoured Personnel Carriers and other tactical vehicles, while declaring that the Nigeria Police Force is repositioning for better operations.
The IGP said the assets, including three MRAP APCs, four anti-riot water cannons, and three deployment barriers, will be deployed nationwide to boost mobility and protect frontline officers.
The IGP , who stated this during the commissioning of the high end equipment at the Force headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, noted that “this is not just a commissioning it’s a strategic declaration of our readiness to confront emerging threats across Nigeria.”
He further stated that the acquisition is part of a broader police transformation agenda focused on intelligence-led and technology-driven policing.
According to him, “these vehicles are more than machines they are shields of the people and symbols of national trust.”
While addressing the police personnel, the IGP charged them to use the equipment with professionalism and patriotic discipline.
While reassuring that the Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property with renewed energy and capability, the IGP said ” those threatening national peace, we are coming for you strategically, swiftly, and without hesitation.”
Meanwhile, the IGP also commissioned a state-of-the-art Police Mechanical Workshop equipped with cutting edge facilities and technology.
Force PRO said “This is a critical support unit of the Force which would ensure the optimal working condition of operational vehicles, enabling timely responses to emergencies and effective police operations. This support unit, located at Dei-Dei, Abuja, would maintain operational readiness of all tactical and operational vehicles, minimizing downtime and ensuring mobility during critical operations.”
