As insecurity continues to escalate in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, a renowned international organisation with United Nations ECOSOC Special Consultative Status since 2019 has offered to mediate in order to bring about peace in the area.
A press statement made available to newsmen and signed by the world Peace President of IAWPA Ambassador Per Stafsen from Denmark said the association is very concerned about the ugly situation in the east especially in Imo state which hitherto has been a peaceful state.
The statement which was also corroborated by the International spokesman of the association Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke in a phone call with our correspondent said the association will also collaborate with other International and national non governmental organisations to work towards bringing peace to Imo state and other South Eastern states.
He said the need to wade into the crisis is as a result of the fact that the association thinks the insecurity can be resolved since it is at an early stage.
“You can see that the issue of insecurity in south Eastern states is at an early stage. It is something that can be controlled and I think if after what we will do as regards troubleshooting will bring about possible resolution of the crisis and mind you, the governor of Imo state is also a peace loving man who has supported peace efforts in the country”
Amb. Nkweke said to underscore the importance of the peace intervention in the south east, the World Peace President has taken it upon himself to personally lead the international troubleshooting efforts.
The statement said the south east peace mission will begin with a world press conference which will see various international and national NGOs involved in peace building as well as other stakeholders attending.
