Niger State Government has suspended movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles from 6pm to 6am in Minna, the state capital.

LEADERSHIP reports that the decision of the governor,  Mohammed Umaru Bago, was coming on the heels of the security situation in the state, where hoodlums killed no fewer than 20 people within a month.

The governor who spoke at a critical stakeholders security meeting held at the Government House with the traditional title holders in Minna Emirate and the heads of security agencies  announced the suspension.

Bago, however, announced an exemption for medical emergencies,  while describing the measure as a temporary measure aimed at addressing the growing security challenges in the state capital.

The governor disclosed that he will not sit back and watch criminals continue to perpetrate evil, adding that it is the responsibility of every government to ensure the security of the lives and property of its citizens.

He also warned district, village and ward heads always to ensure proper documentation of people they harbour in their domains, explaining that any house found to be harbouring criminals will be demolished, while buildings where hard drugs are sold will also be destroyed.

The governor also called on the entire security apparatus of the state to ensure that they clamp down on criminals.

Bago equally cautioned parents to warn their children, as anyone caught in any violent-related activity will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly with the full weight of the law, as the State government will continue to have zero tolerance on thuggery and rascality.
