A United States Congressional delegation has visited Nigeria on a fact-finding mission following insecurity reports and claims of genocide against Christians in the country, a development that led to the re-designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ by President Donald Trump.

The visit was a follow-up to a meeting earlier held with Nigerian officials in the United States on ‘shared security priorities’ some days ago.

This was disclosed by Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on his verified Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, saying the engagement focused on counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening Nigeria–U.S. strategic security partnership.

NSA Ribadu, who earlier received the delegation on Sunday morning, said he was optimistic that the latest engagement would deepen trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to peace and security by both nations.

“This morning, I received a U.S. Congressional delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, following our earlier engagements in Washington, D.C., on shared security priorities.

“The delegation included Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, Rep. Norma Torres, Rep. Scott Franklin, Rep. Juan Ciscomani, and Rep. Riley M. Moore.

“U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Richard Mills, also attended, reflecting the importance both nations attach to this engagement.

“Discussions focused on counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening Nigeria–U.S. strategic security partnership.

“I’m optimistic this engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to peace and security,” Ribadu wrote.
