The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has re-elected Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle as its national chairman for a second two-year term through a peaceful and transparent election held in Abuja yesterday.

Visibly overwhelmed by the confidence reposed in him by leaders of political parties, Dantalle declared the outcome as “a remarkable victory for sustainable democracy and development in IPAC and the nation.”

He praised party leaders for demonstrating their ability to conduct a credible internal election devoid of rancour.

Dantalle said, “You have spoken loud and clear with your votes for continuity,” referencing the programmes and reforms initiated since his first mandate began in December 2023.

“Today’s election is a triumph of hope for a better, greater and brighter Inter Party Advisory Council,” he said.

The IPAC chief lauded contestants, both winners and runners-up, noting that the election reinforced the unity and shared purpose of the council. He also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the exercise despite a demanding schedule and applauded the IPAC Electoral Committee for “a job well done.”

Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, Dantalle highlighted key reforms, including the establishment of the Directorates of Women, Youth and Persons With Disabilities—an inclusivity-driven promise he said was fulfilled within his first year in office. He also noted the transformation of the IPAC Code of Conduct into a binding constitution for all registered political parties, introducing the groundbreaking “twining concept” which mandates gender balance in principal party positions.

In addition, the chairman cited strategic intellectual and institutional developments such as the publication “100 Years of Political Parties Evolution in Nigeria”, launched earlier this year, and the forthcoming documentary project, “IPAC’s Two-and-a-Half Decades of Unbroken Democracy”.

With the 2027 general election fast approaching, Dantalle reaffirmed his readiness to steer IPAC into a more proactive role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy, saying:

“The tasks ahead are enormous, but by God’s grace we will surmount them and build a better society future generations will be proud of.”

Other members of the new IPAC National Executive Council are Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim – deputy national chairman; Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem – national secretary; Maryam Garba Bagel – deputy national secretary; Dr. Dipo Olayoku – national treasurer; Chinyere Kalu – national organising secretary; Dr Umar Mohammed – national financial secretary; Martins Egbeola – national publicity secretary and Barr. Obed Agu – national legal adviser
