The South West zone of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has tagged the recent invasion of Oyo State government secretariat as illegal and irresponsible, saying the development came as a big surprise for a region that has been enjoying peace and stability.

In a statement signed by the chairman of APC, South West Zone, Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP on Wednesday, noted that the treasonable invasion, which poses a serious threat to democracy and collective efforts at making Nigeria better, is a crime that does not have the support of the South West people.

“We condemn, in strong terms, this senseless and dangerous act and call on the relevant authorities to investigate it so as to unravel the reasons behind it. We equally disown the perpetrators of the crime as not representing the interests of the Southwest people who are known and respected for their “Omoluabi” ethos.

“Yoruba are reasonable, responsible and trustworthy people who believe in the Nigerian project and will not succumb to any attempt by some marauders to infiltrate our system with selfishness and hatred. Our people are doing everything to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration and are solidly behind the government in its efforts at putting the country on a sound and sustainable path to development,” he pointed out.

While commiserating with the government and people of Oyo State on this illegal act, the party encouraged them to keep hope alive as Nigeria will soon regain its leadership position in the comity of nations.

It would be recalled that some miscreants earlier in the week under the aegis of ‘Yoruba Nation,’ invaded the Oyo State Secretariat with dangerous weapons and charms, possibly with the intent to take over power from the democratically elected government of the state but were apprehended and has been charged to court.
