IPC Confirms Coomassie As Ambassador, Head Of Nigeria Mission

The global chairman of the International Peace Commission (IPC), Prince Amir Hassan, has confirmed the Head of Mission of the IPC, United Nations global compact, Amb. Hussaini Haruna Coomassie, as the substantive Head of the Commission and IPC Ambassador in Nigeria.

In a letter dated March 31, 2023, from the IPC World Secretariat in the United States of America, personally issued by the hand and seal of the global chairman at the headquarters, the global chairman of the IPC stated that Amb. Coomassie brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, having trained and worked extensively in the field of peace and conflict resolution.

The letter further stated that Coomassie is widely respected in Nigeria and beyond for his dedication and commitment to service in promoting peace and stability wherever he goes.

“In his new role, Dr. Coomassie will be responsible for leading the IPC’s efforts in Nigeria, working closely with Government officials, Civil Society Organizations, and other Stakeholders to promote Peace, Sustainable Development, Reconciliation, and Conflict Resolution. He will also work to strengthen the IPC’s partnerships and collaborations in Nigeria and across the West African sub-region,” the letter stated.

Prince Hassan elaborated more on Amb Coomassie’s appointment, saying: “I am delighted to welcome Dr. Coomassie to the IPC family. His extensive experience and deep commitment to peace and stability make him an ideal choice to lead our mission in Nigeria. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the IPC will make significant progress towards our shared goal of promoting peace, prosperity, and security in the region.”

In his response, Amb. Coomassie thanked the IPC World Chairman, H.E Prince Hassan, for finding him worthy to hold such a prestigious position as the Head of Mission, Nigeria of the International Peace Commission.

He also expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb Zubairu Dada, the Chief of Protocol of the Ministry, Amb. Bello Husseini Kazaure, and the entire management staff of the Ministry for making his vision a reality in Nigeria.

“I am honoured to have been appointed to head the IPC in Nigeria. I shall ensure that we work closely with our partners and stakeholders across Nigeria, to promote peace and stability in the region. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people affected by conflicts and insecurity,” Coomassie said.

Coomassie, who is now issued with his full Diplomatic ID code: IPC/AHOM/N001, is set to kick-start his mission with courtesy visits to key institutions in Nigeria.

The IPC is a well-recognised global Civil Society Organisation that strives to advance peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution across the globe. The Mission works towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations.

 

With a vast network of specialists and collaborators, the IPC endeavours to tackle some of the most pressing peace and security challenges facing the world today.

 

The IPC was established to uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which was adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948.
