The Nigerian Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel has said that the ongoing war being waged by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran has kept everyone nervous as the situation remains tense following retaliatory missile attacks unleashed on Israel by Iran.
Bello Shehu, a Counselor at the Nigerian embassy in the Israeli capital, assured that despite the volatile situation, Nigerians are safe as no citizen of the country has been reported killed or injured in the conflict so far.
He told our correspondent in telephone conversation from Israel yesterday that “the situation is volatile and the missile attacks are still happening but not as intense as the beginning of the war, and no Nigerian has been affected.”
He also assured that the Nigerian government is making arrangement to evacuate Nigerian citizens once it is safe to do so, adding that a date has not been fixed yet for the exercise.
This development was sequel to the apprehension raised in the country by reports that some Nigerians have sustained injuries in some Gulf countries where Iran hit with missiles in its attempt to attack the US and Israeli assets in those countries.
LEADERSHIP reported on March 2, 2026 that a Nigerian was injured in missile attacks that hit Kuwait but he was treated and in stable condition. Another Nigerian was reportedly injured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday raising fears that more Nigerians may suffer from further attacks.
Also responding to an inquiry by our correspondent on the situation in the Middle East and Gulf countries, the spokesman of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, told our correspondent yesterday that “the situation is under control.”
The Nigerian government had earlier issued security advisory to its citizens residing in the Gulf countries and issued contacts for their safety.
Middle East countries have reportedly shut their airspace because of the torrent of missiles fired by the Iranian government in retaliation for the ongoing military campaign started on Saturday February 28 by the US and Israel, which killed Iran’s Supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and nearly 50 of his top officials.
Nearly 1,400 have been killed in Iran so far in the war. Israel reported that 10 of its citizens have been killed in Iran’s missile attack while the US said it has lost seven soldiers to the conflict.
