New details have emerged in the case involving the death of veteran actor James Handy. Wendy Gledhill, the mother of Michael Gledhill, said her son had been battling serious mental health challenges and was  diagnosed with schizophrenia. She claimed he later stopped taking the medication prescribed for his condition.

Wendy said the 44-year-old had become increasingly paranoid after his diagnosis in July 2025.

She also alleged that he stopped taking his medication about a week before actor James Handy was found fatally stabbed outside her home.

She added that Michael and James did not always agree on everything. However, she described their relationship as generally friendly and respectful.

In Wendy’s message to James’ family, she said:

“Fighting back tears, they know I loved him so much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry this happened. I’m still in shock. I still can’t comprehend it.”

According to police, a 911 caller claimed, “I am the son of man. I just killed the man of sin.”

Officers said that when they arrived at the scene, Michael approached them and identified himself as the person they were looking for.

He was later arrested and charged with one count of murder.

Video obtained by media outlets reportedly shows him walking around the neighbourhood before police arrived and later being placed in handcuffs.

When asked if Michael should spend the rest of his life in prison, Wendy said he should not be in a position where he can harm anyone again.

Michael is currently being held on $2 million bail. Police have not disclosed a motive for the incident.

Authorities have also not confirmed claims by his mother that he has schizophrenia or any other mental health condition.
