Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved the review of the state 2024 budget to raise N16,980,000,000.00 for agricultural programmes, foreign scholarships, and emergency relief to flood and other natural disaster victims.
The assembly passed the bill after the House Committee on Appropriation presented its report.
The report presented by the committee chairman, Hon Ibrahim Hamza, recommendsed slashing N1 billion out of N2.1 billion allocated for Assembly projects and asset acquisition and N1.1 billion out of N2.1 billion allocated to the State Research Institute.
Other ministry and MDAs, board affected by the adjustment to raise the fund included Religious affairs, State Hiv/ Aids Control Agency ( SACA) Pilgrims Welfare Board, Office of The Resident Auditors, Internal Revenue Headquater, Tourism promoting Social register Maintenance among others.
According to the committee report, out of the N16.9 billion Naira, N8 billion was transferred for agricultural mechanisation and procurement of farm plants and implements to boost the sector.
“The sum of N500 million transferred to Scholarship to reads N3.1 billion, N1.7 billion for immunization, NI.7 to the newly created state Ministry of a Renewable Energy, N1.4 increased to Emergency Response and N1.8 billion to the state Ministry of Finance for contingency, among others.
The house sitting, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyating deliberated on the report and unanimously approved the recommendation to adjust the state 2024 appropriation bill.
However, during the sitting, the assembly passed bills to establish the Water Users Association, Jigawa State Public Health Security, and the Tsangaya Education Board to reposition and integrate Tsangaya Education into the formal education system in the state.
