The federal government delegation under the leadership of Senator George Akume has visited Jigawa to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message on the Tanker explosion accident, which killed over 109 and left 54 hospitalised in the state.
However, the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, led the forum delegation on the visit.
The delegation, along with the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, Minister of Defence Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, and director general NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, visited the survivors in the hospital, the scene of the accident, and Majiya town to commiserate with the immediate families of the victims.
Speaking to journalists, Senator George Akume said they were in Jigawa to convey the president’s heartfelt condolences and commiseration to the immediate family of the victims, the Government, and all the good people of Jigawa state over the tragedy.
He said that President Tinibu was touched by the massive loss of lives in the accident and assured him that all necessary measures would be taken to investigate the accident and take appropriate action to prevent such occurrences.
However, he told the Jigawa state government that the National Emergency Management Agency was directed to come in. Whatever the state government did, the federal government would complement the effort to address the situation.
“At our forum, we will discuss the situation and deliberate on the need to enforce more safety measures on our roads,” AbdulRazaq stated
In his response, Governor Malam Umar Namadi thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors, and all public and private institutions and individuals who commiserated with Jigawa state on the tragic incident.
