The chairman of Gumel local government area council in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, has died on Saturday evening, July 5, 2025, at the age of 61.
Hon. Ya’u died at a private hospital in Kano State after a very brief illness..
According to a family source, the deceased was  rushed to the hospital on Friday following a suspected heart attack and unfortunately died on Saturday evening while receiving treatment.
Our correspondent reports that before his election as Gumel local government chairman in August 2024, he was a member of civil society in the State.
He is survived by two wives and many children.
His funeral prayer will take place on Sunday morning in the ancient city of Gumel, Jigawa State.
