Jigawa Raises Kila Gully Erosion Project Budget To ₦3.2bn

The Jigawa State Government has increased the budget for the Kila Gully Erosion Control Project in Gwaram Local Government Area to ₦3.2 billion to accommodate additional works aimed at ensuring the project’s durability and effectiveness.

Governor Umar Namadi disclosed this during an inspection of the project, where he assessed the quality and pace of work to ensure compliance with contractual specifications.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress, particularly the stone pitching and drainage construction, but directed the contractor to expand the scope of the intervention.

“From what we have inspected today, we are satisfied with the progress of the work. The stone pitching and drainage construction are progressing well,” the governor said.

“I have directed the contractors to increase the extent of the stone pitching and reinforce additional sections of the drainage channels so that the project will stand the test of time,” he added.

Namadi said the additional works necessitated the upward review of the project cost, noting that the Kila Gully Erosion Control Project is one of several erosion control initiatives undertaken by his administration to reclaim hundreds of hectares of land threatened by erosion.

He added that the state government is working closely with host communities and other stakeholders to tackle environmental degradation and protect livelihoods and ecosystems across the state.

The governor also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of bridges along the Gwaram–Basirka Road and other road infrastructure projects, saying they form part of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises.
