An aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed speculations linking the former Nigerian leader to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jude Imagwe, one of Jonathan’s media aides, made this statement on Wednesday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on News Central Television.

He said there was no evidence to suggest that the former president was seeking to contest the presidency or had accepted any presidential nomination within the PDP.

Imagwe was reacting to recent claims and political rumours suggesting that Jonathan was being considered for the PDP presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, Jonathan has neither declared interest in the 2027 presidential race nor authorised any individual or group to purchase nomination forms or campaign on his behalf.

“There is no evidence anywhere that former President Goodluck Jonathan is running for president in 2027,” the aide stated.

The clarification comes amid growing political permutations and reports alleging that some political actors within the opposition party were making moves to draft Jonathan into the race.

In recent weeks, posters and endorsements linked to the former president have surfaced in parts of the country, further fuelling speculations about a possible return to active partisan politics.

However, Jonathan’s camp has consistently distanced the former president from such activities, insisting that he remains focused on democracy advocacy, peacebuilding and international engagements.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 under the PDP before losing his re-election bid to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
