Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED Plc) has launched a new initiative, Power Watch, aimed at curbing the growing menace of energy theft and other illegal activities affecting its operations across franchise states.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Sediko Douka during the launching described the development as a strategic response to rising infractions on the company’s network.

“The level of energy theft we are currently experiencing is deeply concerning and poses a serious threat to the sustainability of our operations,” he said.

Douka explained that the initiative is targeted at reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses, improving revenue recovery, and enhancing operational efficiency.

“Power Watch is designed to strengthen community participation in protecting electricity infrastructure while promoting responsible civic engagement through a transparent reward system,” he stated, adding that “every verified report will be rewarded based on the nature of the offence.”

He urged members of the public to report illegal connections, meter bypass, unauthorized reconnections, and other fraudulent practices.

“We encourage all customers to partner with us in sanitizing the system by reporting any suspicious electricity related activities,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Company’s Spokesperson, Aliyu Saratu, assured that informants would be promptly rewarded.

“Every genuine report will be treated with strict confidentiality and rewarded without delay,” she said.

She disclosed that reports can be made via phone calls or WhatsApp on 0911 888 2205 and 0707 470 8467, or through email at [email protected].

Saratu expressed confidence that the initiative would deepen collaboration with host communities and improve service delivery. “Power Watch will not only help sanitize our network but also strengthen trust and accountability between JED Plc and its customers,” she said.
