Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) has matriculated 8,603 students.

According to the federal varsity, the number comprises 7,059 undergraduate regular students, 215 sandwich students, and 1,938 postgraduate students.

In a welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Itodo, reiterated the institution’s commitment to producing graduates with strong character and academic excellence.

The university, formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, was renamed in honour of the late Chief Joseph Sarwuan Tarka, a legendary statesman known for selfless service and visionary leadership.

The don urged students to carry on with the legacy of the legendary Stateman, focusing on solving problems and driving innovation in food security and technology.

Prof Itodo warned students against social vices, including cultism, examination malpractice, and drug abuse, stressing that the university has zero tolerance for such behaviours.

He urged students to prioritise academic rigour and choose their associations wisely.

While the matriculation ceremony marks the beginning of a journey that shapes the students’ future, Professor Itodo expressed the hope that they will leave JOSTUM as “Tarka’s Giants,” equipped to contribute to national development and lead the world.
