Judiciary Weaponised To Suppress Opposition, Says Zamfara NDC

Following the recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, the Zamfara State chapter of the  Nigeria Democratic Congress  (NDC) led by Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako has lamented that Nigeria is witnessing a dangerous trend where the judiciary is being weaponised to suppress political alternatives.

It stressed that the NDC supporters structure are solid, from the polling units to the national level.

Maikatako in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Gusau said, “Under the unassailable leadership of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, we shall resist any attempt to deny Nigerians the right to a credible, people-centred political choice.”

“I wish to categorically and unequivocally state that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) remains a legally recognised, fully operational, and vibrant political party.”

Our National Leader and National Chairman have provided the necessary clarity: the NDC has not been deregistered. We stand firm as a legitimate entity, committed to the principles of democracy and the service of the Nigerian people.

“The recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which arose from a spurious application by an obscure association known as the Peace Movement Party, is a decision we view as a temporary legal hurdle, not a death knell. It was neither an appeal against the judgment that mandated INEC to register the NDC nor a substantive suit challenging our existence. While we hold the judiciary in the highest esteem, we fundamentally disagree with this specific ruling.”

He charged the good people of Zamfara State to remain courageous and not to despair. “This is a moment to hold fast to the hope we have found in the NDC. I urge you to remain calm, united, and resolute. Our National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, CON, has assured us that we have nothing to fear. Do not be swayed by the propaganda of those who fear our ascendancy or intimidated by the political elite who see us as a threat. This is a legal battle, and we are prepared to win it.” He added

“We thank you for your unwavering support. Your belief in our vision is the fuel that drives us. This is the dawn of a new era. We are on the path to reclaiming our state and our nation from the hands of those who have held it captive. With your continued support, our collective determination, and the help of Almighty Allah, we will overcome this challenge.

“We shall not just survive; we shall thrive. We shall not just participate; we shall win. The NDC is here to stay, and our victory is certain. Together, we shall build a new Zamfara,” he maintained.
