JUST IN: 68 Passengers Escape Unhurt As Enugu Air Aircraft Overshoots Runway In Benin

All 68 passengers aboard an Enugu Air aircraft escaped unhurt on Thursday after the plane overshot the runway while landing at Benin Airport.

The aircraft, with registration number 5N-ENR, reportedly veered off the runway and came to a stop in a bushy area surrounding the airport.

Airport sources said officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly evacuated all 68 passengers and crew members from the aircraft without any injuries or fatalities.

The incident temporarily disrupted airport operations as aviation officials secured the aircraft and commenced preliminary investigations.

Confirming the occurrence in a statement, Enugu Air said the aircraft experienced a “runway incursion” after landing at Benin Airport.
“We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked and there were no injuries or casualties.”

It added that the aircraft had been secured while the relevant aviation authorities had been notified in accordance with established procedures.

“The aircraft has been secured and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures. An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway,” the statement added.

The airline noted that the incident could lead to temporary adjustments to some of its flight schedules, assuring affected passengers that they would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary assistance.

Enugu Air reaffirmed that the safety of its passengers, crew and operations remains its highest priority, pledging to provide further updates through its official communication channels as investigations progress.
