A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an interim order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its national vice chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, from conducting the party’s zonal congress, which was scheduled to hold in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Two PDP members in Rivers State, Hon. Tony Ejiogu and Hon. Fred Nkor, had approached the Court seeking for an order stopping the party and its officials from going ahead with the zonal congress.
The presiding judge, Justice Godwin Obomanu, ruled in favour of the claimants, following submissions by their counsel, Emeka Ojoko.
The court ordered the defendants, along with their agents and representatives, to halt any preparations for the party congress until the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.
The order also mandated all parties involved to maintain the status quo as of February 20, 2025, pending further court proceedings.
Additionally, the court granted the claimants permission to serve legal documents on the PDP and Dan Orbih through substituted means, including posting notices at the South-South zonal headquarters in Port Harcourt and publishing the notice in a widely read national newspaper.
The case has been adjourned to February 28, 2025, for a hearing on the Motion on Notice.
