JUST-IN: Edo Court Invalidates State Assembly’s Resolution, Reinstates LG Chairs

An Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, on Friday, ordered the reinstatement of the suspended chairmen and vice chairmen of the 18 local government area councils in the state.

The court, presided by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, granted the order following a suit filed by the affected local government chairmen and vice chairmen.

The order also restrained the defendants, including Governor Monday Okpebholo, and Edo State Government, among others, from acting on the resolution of the State House of Assembly suspending the claimants.

The court ordered that status quo ante bellum as at December 12 be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed on December 12, 2024.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned the matter to February 17, 2025, for hearing and ordered that a hearing notice be issued and served on the Defendants in the suit.
