When contacted, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident but said he could not confirm the number of those killed, injured or abducted.

He, however, said that operatives of the Police Command had been deployed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, to the affected communities and promised to give an update later.

LEADERSHIP learnt that besides the three vigilante operatives killed in Abatete and community leader who sustained gunshot injury, about seven people were abducted and whisked away by the hoodlums, while many others sustained injuries as a result of pandemonium that broke out when the gunmen started shooting sporadically.
