It was gathered that the terrorists came in large numbers and dislodged the troops after a fierce battle in the New Marte, in Marte local government area in the fringe of Lake Chad Basin region.

Eyewitness said the terrorists are now in control of the town as thousands of residents fled to Dikwa town, a neighbouring local government ,which is about 27 kilometers away.

“We slept in the bush and many residents are trapped as we speak. They have taken over the military base after carting away their arms and ammunition,” the source said.

Another source said they have overpowered the troops, “The terrorists have reacaptured New Marte and we are seriously in trouble.”
