The member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Arc. Salman Idris, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Arc. Idris, in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and read on the floor of the Green Chamber on Tuesday, said his decision followed careful consultation with critical stakeholders in his federal constituency.

According to him, the move also followed calls by his constituents to align with the political party that will best accommodate their collective political values and principles.

The letter reads: “I wish to formally notify The Rt. Honourable Speaker and respected colleagues due to the National Leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress. I have resolved, after careful consideration and consultation with critical stakeholders, political associates, and constituents in Kabba-Bunu/ljumu Federal Constituency and Kogi State at large to move from The African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) with immediate effect.

“As a true representative of the people, I believe that this defection has become exigent owing to the increased call from my constituents to align myself with the political party that will best accommodate our collective political values and principles.”
