Thirty-year-old popular Zaria politician, Mahmoud Sadis Buba, hopes to defeat Hon. Sadiq Ango, son of prominent elder statesman Prof. Abdullahi Ango, in the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in 2027.
Buba, popularly known as Abin Al-Aljabin Zazzau, is, so far, the political sensation ahead of the 2027 election. Though famed for his small stature, he has, however, grabbed media attention because of his wit and courage in navigating Nigeria’s murky political terrain.
Born on August 2, 1995, Buba is the first child in a family of nine children.
He attended Government Secondary, Auta in Ikara Local Government area of Kaduna state and obtained National Examinations Council (NECO) result.
LEADERSHIP checks revealed that Buba is single and staying with his parents in Samaru, a community hosting Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is single and is planning to get married.
Buba’s personal assistant, Alhassan Sani, said his principal stays with Sabon Gari people. “My principal empowers the people especially the less privileged. He is still staying with his parents in Samaru.“
He served as chairman of a support group known as the ‘Tinubu–Uba Sani Agenda 2027’. He is also known as a grassroots mobiliser within his constituency and across Zaria environs.
He said the people of the federal constituency want him to represent them at the Green Chamber.
“It is not from me. It is from the people,” he said when asked why he was seeking to unseat the incumbent lawmaker.
Cleared to contest the primaries last week by the APC screening committee, Buba said he had met and consulted prominent Nigerians within his party, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, among others. He said he is optimistic about clinching the ticket and winning the 2027 general elections.
Interestingly, his only challenger for the APC ticket, Hon. Ango, also rose to office through a dramatic story. Prof. Ango’s son was voted into office in 2023 while being held in a terrorists’ camp.
He was one of the survivors of the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack. He was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but later defected to the APC to seek another term.
Ango was born on July 7, 1983, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
However, an ABU staff member, Hassan Sani, who is based in Sabon Gari, said both Buba and Ango are dedicated and hardworking young politicians who strongly believe in what they do.
“I know him from afar, but people speak well about Buba. He has been involved in political campaigns since the 2015 general elections. People also speak well about the current member representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Sadiq Ango,” he said.
