Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, has launched the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), following the completion of its on-campus training sponsored by the agency.

With this milestone, the institution becomes one of the first in Nigeria to deploy the world-class digital learning platform under the TETFund initiative, which aims to standardise teaching and learning in line with global best practices.

The ceremony, held at the School of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Education, Kafanchan Campus, was attended by the college’s leadership, academic staff, the Directorate of ICT, and representatives from Pole Global Marketing (PGM), the implementing partner for Anthology Blackboard in Nigeria.

The School of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Education was selected as the pilot school for the programme.

Anthology’s Blackboard Learn LMS is the world’s leading EdTech Learning Management system, and is being introduced to transform the teaching and learning experience in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. The platform will enable seamless interaction between students and faculty, offer access to world-class learning resources, and align Nigerian institutions with global best practices in education delivery.

Delivering the opening remarks, Nicolas Alboouze, vice president, Middle East Africa, Anthology, described the event as the start of a new chapter for Nigerian higher education: “Today, we are not just talking about change, we are initiating a vision. We are planting a seed that will grow into a harvest of knowledge, opportunity, and transformation.

“The TETFund Blackboard Learning Management System is a bridge from the old way of learning to a new era where no student is left behind, no lecturer is left unsupported, and no dream is out of reach. From today, the classroom is no longer a room; it is wherever you are, whenever you are ready to learn. It is in your hands, on the screen, and in your heart,” He urged lecturers to “create without limits” and students to see it as “a toolbox for success, a library without walls, and a passport to the future.”

Michael Adedeji Ladipo, country director and head of business West Africa of Pole Global Marketing (PGM), also expressed optimism about the pilot project’s success. “This milestone marks a significant step toward advancing digital teaching and learning in Nigerian institutions, and this realisation is in line with the fulfilment of the minister, Dr Tunji Alausa’s vision and leadership, in line with Mr President’s policy for an inclusive and well-rounded education for our youth and the future of Nigeria.

“We commend the leadership of the College, particularly the Directorate of ICT under Engr. Simon Gajere Nyalla, for championing this transformation and selecting the School of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Education as the pilot school for this groundbreaking initiative. We are honoured to be partners in this journey of innovation and capacity building, and we look forward to continued collaboration as we empower educators and students to thrive in a technology-driven academic environment.”

Engr. Simon Gajere Nyalla, acting director, ICT, Kaduna State College of Education, explained the technical advantages of the Blackboard LMS. “Blackboard is a proven learning management platform used by top universities worldwide.

“With features for course content delivery, assignments, grading, discussion boards, and real-time collaboration, it gives both faculty and students the tools they need to succeed in a digital learning environment. Our role is to ensure that implementation is smooth and that lecturers and students are trained to use it effectively.”

Sponsored by TETFund under the leadership of Mr President, this initiative represents the largest integration and migration to Blackboard globally. It is poised to transform education delivery in Nigeria, ushering in 21st-century learning and fostering greater collaboration between academics and students.
