Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have raised N50 million to offset part of the N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The fundraising was announced at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, where party leaders also endorsed Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate.
Managing director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, moved the motion for Tinubu’s adoption, which was seconded by former Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the contribution represents 50 per cent of the total cost of the forms, which were earlier obtained by the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.
The stakeholders equally endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as the party’s sole governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. The motion was moved by former state APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, and seconded by Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo.
Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, presided over the session and put both motions to vote, which were unanimously adopted.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Yusuf conveyed President Tinubu’s message calling for unity among party members in Kano. He also relayed the President’s position that consensus should guide candidate emergence, with primaries adopted only where necessary.
Prominent APC figures at the meeting included former national chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former deputy governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar; and former minister of state for housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo.
Others were members of the National Assembly, while the deputy senate president, Barau Jibrin, and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau were represented.
Speaking after the meeting, Bichi expressed confidence that the APC would record a decisive victory in Kano in 2027, citing growing unity within the party and increased grassroots support driven by federal projects and political alignments in the state.
