Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has declared a total lifting of the decades-long so-called recruitment embargo and approved the recruitment of over 10,000 staff.
Governor Namadi stated this while speaking during the celebration of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, held at the Muhammad Sanusi Durbar Ground in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the provision of adequate manpower in the public sector is key to the successful implementation of government policy, and in view of that, they will not leave any stone unturned in their quest to make Jigawa great.
“We have already recruited thousands of permanent and temporary staff, including teachers, health workers, extension workers, and other key public sector employees, to bridge the existing huge gap we inherited over the years.
“As we promised, we will continue to implement policies and programmes that will transform our civil service sector, including building the capacity of our workers, taking care of their entitlements, providing an enabling working environment, and other initiatives that would enhance their economy, welfare, and betterment,” Governor Namadi stated.
In his keynote address, the chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Jigawa State chapter, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan, called on the state government to sustain its ongoing workers’ recruitment to enhance effective public service delivery in the state.
He said the mass recruitment of teachers, health workers, and other key public sector employees has reduced the huge manpower gap in the state civil service. He noted that such effort is very commendable and needs to be sustained until the challenge is addressed.
The NLC chairman also called on the Jigawa State government to domesticate the polytechnics’ dual function policy and the federal government’s circular on public service to enhance workers’ welfare , productivity and effective service delivery.
Comrade Alhassan then extended the appreciation of the NLC to Governor Namadi for his numerous initiatives for workers’ betterment, such as the civil servants’ agricultural loan, over 1,000 housing scheme units, recruitment of over 10,000 permanent and temporary workers, training and retraining, full implementation of the minimum wage, timely payment of pensions, gratuities, and other workers’ entitlements.
He promised to reciprocate the gesture with more dedication and punctuality in the implementation of the state government’s policies and general public service delivery.
