The vice chairman of the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Maigari, has reassured that members of the party will continue to abide by the Peace Accord signed at the Kano Police Command.

Maigari stated this yesterday while responding to questions from LEADERSHIP Friday on the protests by the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State against the sacking of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by the Appeal Court.

Maigari said there is peace in state as everyone have been going about their businesses. He however accused some persons of breaching the Peace Accord by staging protests.

He called on the people of the state not to be intimidated by the actions of a few individuals but to remain calm and wait for the Supreme Court judgement.

He also urged law enforcement agents to enforce the Peace Accord as agreed.

“People that are right now in Kano know the exact situation of things, there is no such tension in the state. Everyone is going about his or her  normal business.

“There is no tension in Kano at present. It is only a few self-centered people that are organising what is currently happening.

“Remember that last week our party the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were invited by the police to the State Police Headquarters where we signed a Peace Accord. But to our greatest surprise these people betrayed the accord.

“The police that were there when the accord was signed are in the best position to checkmate the situation.

“Though the situation itself is not ugly because people are going about doing their daily businesses. Their so-called protests is not preventing people from doing what they are doing. All commercial activities are going on and everybody is busy doing his business.

“They are using hired crowd that anybody can gather if he likes, but APC being slaw abiding political party we abide by the rules and regulations and the Peace Accord that was signed. That is why we are calm.

“But as far as we are concerned, being the vice chairman of the APC in Kano I know that it is a hired crowd. What the people are spreading about as serious tension in Kano is not true, everybody is going about his normal business. Except for very few individuals that have hired crowd to see if they can break down law and order.

“With what is happening now the skeletal protests, I think the security agencies should do their jobs to checkmate the illegal gatherings” he stated.
