The bill was passed after the House considered the clauses (1-30) in the committee of the whole house and third reading by the clerk, Bashir Diso, during Tuesday‘s plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore.

According to the House, when established, the laboratory will conduct forensic examinations of documents, materials, equipment, impressions, and other related subjects.

Meanwhile, after plenary, the majority leader, Hon. Lawan Husseini, briefed Journalists about the new bill and said the Laboratory would help find evidence, especially documented evidence such as school certificates, signatures, and wills.

He said the forensic expert would also help tackle the genuity of documents, especially in conflicts arising from issuing a land document (such as a C of O) to more than one person.

“There are other instances where a court may seek to know the truth of a document, and it can refer it to the forensic expert to give their advice,”  he added.
