Kano State House of Assembly has urged Governor Abba Yusuf to reconstruct the 300-year-old road linking three wards of Gwagwarwa, Gawuna and Gama to Airport Road in Nassarawa local government area.
The House appeal followed a motion moved by the member representing Nassarawa constituency, Hon. Yusuf Aliyu, during yesterday’s plenary, which was presided over by the speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore.
According to him, the crossroad is in a low-profile area where rainwater accumulates and causes flooding during certain times.
He added that one of the roads is a historic one that has existed for almost 300 years and serves as a link to the Niger Republic, while others have existed for decades.
However, he lamented that several motions were raised in the past with promises that were not implemented, especially on the Gawuna Bayan Makaranta Road, where it was measured three times.
He further highlighted that, when implemented, marketing activities would be boosted, enhancing development and creating ease for the area’s residents.
Similarly, the House called on the state government to upgrade the Rabi’u Musa College of Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada (RMKCARS), to a College of Education, Technical and Advanced Studies.
The resolution followed a joint motion by a member representing the Tudun Wada constituency, Alhaji Sule Shuwaki, and a member representing the Dogowa constituency, Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim.
The lawmakers argued that elevating the college will reduce unemployment, as students trained in technical and vocational skills will become self-reliant.
They said leveraging existing infrastructure on a large land mass makes it suitable for expansion. As such, the move will boost academic excellence and set a new track record for the state.
After deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the motion, urging the state government to take action regarding road rehabilitation and college upgrades.
