The Kano State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved the sum of N310.27 billion for housing, infrastructure and other key projects as part of efforts to accelerate development across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Council’s 38th meeting held at the Government House, Kano.

Waiya said the approvals, which cut across major sectors, underscored the administration’s commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps, expanding housing and improving service delivery.

A breakdown of the approvals shows that the housing sector received the highest allocation, with N113.19 billion approved for the construction of a 480-unit mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan, christened “Gida Gida Mega City.”

The Council also approved N1 billion for the establishment of an Emergency Operations Management Centre at the Government House.

In the works and infrastructure sector, EXCO approved N13.2 billion for the execution of 2026 constituency projects across the state. It also approved N2.91 billion for the reconstruction of roads linking Race Course Extension to Audu Bako Way, Alu Avenue and Commandant Close in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

Similarly, N1.66 billion was approved for the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the Gidan Malam Aminu Kano–Tal’udu–Gadonkaya–Yahaya Gusau–Sharada road network, while N184.35 million was earmarked for the construction of the Ladanai road network.

Further approvals included N483.6 million for additional works on the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy and N178.1 million for the construction of a perimeter fence, security facilities and solar streetlights at the historic Dala Hill.

Under rural and community development, the Council approved N1.5 billion for 2026 special intervention projects and over N1 billion for feeder road construction across Bichi, Dambatta, Garko and Takai local government areas to boost rural connectivity.

In the land and physical planning sector, N1.7 billion was approved for compensation to households affected by the 330KVA transmission line project, alongside N311.38 million for properties impacted by the Kano Line Road project.

Other approvals span education, health, environment and social welfare, including funding for school rehabilitation, procurement of medical equipment, drainage construction and the Ramadan feeding programme.

Waiya noted that the approvals reflect the government’s resolve to drive sustainable development, stimulate economic growth and improve the living conditions of residents across Kano State.
