The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended at least 583 youths over alleged immoral conduct during the recently concluded Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in the state.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, and made available to journalists.

“During the Sallah, our personnel were able to arrest no fewer than 583 young men and women for committing various immoral acts.

“As you know, we deployed a total of 9,500 personnel across the state in order to check the excesses of such individuals, which yielded fruitful results,” he said.

Aminuddeen revealed that 275 commercial tricycle operators were arrested for braiding their hair and wearing hairstyles deemed inappropriate and inconsistent with Islamic teachings.

He further stated that 21 tricycle operators were detained for putting on three-quarter trousers, while 286 young women were taken into custody for alleged indecent dressing during the festivities.

“These young women were caught in indecent dresses that exposed their bodies in the name of fashion,” he said.

He also disclosed that 85 tricycle operators were arrested for transporting male and female passengers together in a manner considered improper.

Additionally, the board said it rescued 66 missing children during the Sallah period and successfully reunited them with their families.

According to the board, the arrests were part of its ongoing enforcement campaign, “Operation Fight Against Immorality,” aimed at sanitising the state.
