Addressing newsmen at his office on Tuesday, Hashim Dungurawa, the state chairman of the NNPP, announced that for chairmanship a contestant will pay N500,000 for the nomination form and N100,000 for expression of interest form.

He stated further that for councillorship position, a contestant will pay N150,000 for nomination form and N50,000 for expression of interest form.

“So, at least we know people that are coming in, we don’t expect to see serving governors or serving ministers and what have you. It is the middle class people that are expected to come in, and they are the ones who know what is happening in the country and they are the ones seeking alternatives.

“We are able to fix the price of our firms for the party primaries. That of local government chairmanship will pay N500,000 for the nomination form and N100,000 for expression of interest. This put together, it is N600,000 for chairmanship.

“For the councillorship, interested person would pay N150,000 for the nomination form, while the expression of interest form will be N50,000. This put together, for councillorship, both the expression of interest and nomination forms will be N200,000” he stated.

He called on office holders at all levels that are interested in contesting the incoming local government elections to ensure they resign by month end to avoid violating the elections guidelines.

“This is the stance of our party and we are appealing and using this medium to tell all interested contestants that hold various positions, either in the state, or in the local government to resign at the end of this month of August.

“Because according to the time table, we need to have at least a month before the screening exercise commences at the KANSIEC to which they said they are going to release all the names of candidates at the end of October, the 25th day of October.

“Going by that, we appeal to all our people, that whoever has interest to contest in the local government elections should resign at the end of this month in order to avoid violation of the process” the chairman appealed.

He explained that the party is gender balanced and assured that everyone that is qualified will be allowed to contest.
