Stakeholders in Kano North Senatorial District have declared support for the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, while rejecting the senatorial ambition of a former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo.

The position was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Kano North Political Stakeholders Forum and signed by its chairman, Aliyu Abbas Gumawa.

The group said it had reviewed recent political developments in the district and concluded that Gwarzo’s ambition lacked grassroots support.

It expressed concern over recent political activities and declarations by aspirants, particularly Gwarzo, describing his entry into the race as a “misplaced ambition lacking grassroots backing and relevance to the aspirations of the people of Kano North.”

The stakeholders also faulted the composition of attendees at Gwarzo’s declaration event, alleging that it was largely dominated by individuals from outside the constituency.

According to the forum, the development “underscores a growing disconnect between the aspirant and the people he seeks to represent,” adding that the gathering could not be used as a measure of popular support in the district.

The group further warned against what it described as increasing external interference in Kano North’s political affairs, cautioning against attempts by non-indigenes to impose candidates on the constituency.

Reaffirming their stance, the stakeholders expressed confidence in Barau, whom they described as “a tested, trusted and result-oriented representative.”

They added that his performance and accessibility had continued to earn him widespread support across the district.

The forum stressed that Kano North was “not available for political experimentation or imposed candidacies,” urging political actors to respect the will of the electorate and allow the people to determine their future based on performance, loyalty and proven representation.
