Ikorodu City inflicted a significant blow to Kano Pillars, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) survival hopes with a resounding 3-0 victory on Matchday 34 on Sunday.

The heavy defeat leaves the former champions precariously positioned, just three points above bottom spot club Kun Khalifa in the relegation zone.

The home side took the lead in the 28th minute through J. Arumala, giving Ikorodu City a 1-0 advantage at halftime. Kano Pillars’ struggles continued into the second half, with T. Oyedokun doubling Ikorodu City’s lead in the 72nd minute.

A. Ayodeji then sealed the comprehensive victory for Ikorodu City with a goal in the 88th minute.

This crushing loss sees Kano Pillars drop to 15th spot in the league table, with only a slender three-point cushion separating them from bottom-placed Kun Khalifa. They are also just two points ahead of El Kanemi Warriors, Remo Stars, and Wikki Tourists, who occupy the 19th, 18th, and 17th positions respectively. With only a few games remaining, Kano Pillars face an uphill battle to avoid the drop.
