The bill, co-sponsored by the members representing Nasarawa and Kiru constituency, Hon. Yusuf Aliyu and Usman Tasiu, seeks to enhance the security of lives and properties in the state.

The majority leader of the house, Hon. Lawan Husseini, took the second reading during Monday’s plenary presided over by the speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore.

Shortly after the plenary, Hon Husseini explained to journalists that the outfit, when established, would provide security for citizens and assist the police in maintaining law and order in the state.

ā€œAs you are all aware, there is widespread insecurity in the state ranging from phone snatching to thuggery activities and rampant sales of illicit drugs in the state. When established, it will help reduce the menace of all these types of crimes.ā€

He also highlighted that the corps will have the power to carry weapons, make arrests, and hand over suspects to the police for prosecution. At the same time, their status will be hierarchy, with a commander-general who will chair the operational section and a governing council comprising people with proven integrity, void of partisan politics.

Similarly, Hon Husseini also carried out the second reading on the Kano state signage and advertisement (establishment) bill, 2025, where he emphasised that, when the agency is established, it will ensure that all adverts on billboards adhere to Sharia laws, limit the indiscriminate pasting of posters on walls, and improve revenue generation.

Other bills that passed the second reading in the house are the Kano State Printing Corporation Bill 2025 and the Kano State Electricity Bill 2025.

After careful deliberation and much support from various members for the bills, Speaker Falgore said the Kano State Security Corps Bill 2025 and Kano State Printing Corporation Bill 2025 will be considered in the committee of the whole house in its next sitting while the Kano State signage and advertisement (establishment) bill 2025 has been referred to the house committee on land to report to the house within three weeks. The house, however, adjourned its sitting to February 3rd, 2025.
