A Kano-based university student, Abdulkadir Basri, has completed a 120-hour sewing marathon to set a Guinness World Record, with official confirmation still pending.
Basri, a student in the Department of Business Administration at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, held the marathon from October 5 to 10 at the university’s Ibrahim Yakasai Sports Complex.
Tagged “Sew for the Nation,” the initiative combined a record attempt with a social intervention aimed at supporting education by providing uniforms for pupils in public schools whose families may struggle to afford them.
Basri said his goal extended beyond breaking a record to making a meaningful contribution to the education of disadvantaged children.
“This is an attempt not just to break a record but to create impact and support education of students at public schools through providing them with uniforms,” he said.
Official confirmation of the Guinness World Record attempt is still pending.
The event also gained wide support from Kano residents, fellow artisans, influencers and his fellow students, who turned up massively to support him.
