Kanu and Ikpeba will grace the playoffs as a mark of their confidence in the league and also to boost the morale of the players.

According to NNL chairman George Aluo, “The Super 8 playoff is really generating huge interest with confirmation by two former Super Eagles legends Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba that they will attend the games,” he declared.

Both legends spoke with me and assured they will grace the opener on July 5. In fact Kanu said he is shelving an overseas trip ostensibly to be part of the Super 8. He said he is impressed with how the NNL is being transformed and pledged to use his clout to attract sponsors to the league.”

On his part, former ACB FC of Lagos and Monaco of France ace Ikpeba said he is happy the Super 8 is taking place in Asaba, saying it is a perfect venue to wrap up what he called a fantastic season.

Kanu and Ikpeba are both products of the Nigerian League having plied their trade with defunct Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri and ACB of Lagos before hitting it big at the international scene.
