Katsina State Government has proposed a total of N4.2 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to drive its Green Energy Empowerment Programme.

It is a strategic initiative that promotes the adoption of renewable energy, job creation and sustainable agricultural practices in the state.

The proposal was presented during the pre-budget defence session chaired by the commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Malam Anas Malik, where the senior special assistant to the Governor on Power and Renewable Energy, Hafiz Ibrahim, defended the allocation before the ministry.

Hafiz Ibrahim explained that the 4.2 billion allocation covers comprehensive training and empowerment initiatives targeting over 361 beneficiaries drawn from all wards across the state.

The programme, he said, focuses on key components such as solar-powered greenhouse farming, small-scale energy enterprises, and metering technology, each designed to empower participants with both knowledge and practical tools.

According to him, the project extends beyond training to ensure participants have the necessary tools to launch their ventures.

“For instance, under the solar-powered greenhouse scheme, we will establish demonstration greenhouses strategically across the three senatorial zones.

These will serve both as training centres and production hubs to sustain the beneficiaries’ livelihoods,” he explained.

The SSA noted that the initiative reflects Governor Dikko Umaru Radda administration’s commitment to renewable energy expansion and youth empowerment, aligning with economic diversification and environmental sustainability goals.

Commissioner Anas Malik commended the presentation and emphasised the need for transparency and proper documentation in the programme’s execution.

He directed the Department of Finance and Budget to collaborate with the project secretariat to harmonise all details for smooth implementation.

Malik added that the Radda administration is determined to ensure the equitable distribution of developmental projects across all parts of the state, particularly in emerging sectors such as renewable energy and green agriculture.
